Tourism

With 157 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Georgia Department of Economic Development-branded “Historic South” region has the state’s second strongest tourism industry behind the Atlanta Metro Area.  The biggest tourism draw to the region is the annual Masters® Golf Tournament held in Augusta each April.  Past estimates have shown that in the single week of the tournament, roughly $100 million of economic activity is generated each year by the many thousands of visitors who travel from all over the world to see The Masters®.

Columbia County is proud to be only a short distance from Augusta National, home to the game’s most prestigious tournament.  Since 1934, the magnificent golf course has awed spectators each April with its lush lawns and brilliant foliage.  The event provides a tremendous economic stimulus to the regional economy, as thousands upon thousands of visitors flock to the area for one week each April.
