  • Motor Fuel Tax: The State Excise Tax is levied at 7 ½ cents per gallon of fuel purchased. This amount is one of the lowest taxes of its type in the country.
  • Worker’s Compensation: Georgia law requires employers to insure against job-related accidents. Georgia operates in a competitive insurance market and companies bid for the lowest cost of insurance. The cost of the insurance depends on specific job categories involved and the amount of the payroll.
  • Unemployment Insurance: The initial rate of unemployment insurance is 2.7% of each employee’s first $8,500 earnings. After an employment record is established in Georgia (36 months), companies are given a new rate based on the history of employee separation. For companies with the best records, there is no unemployment tax required.
  • Personal Income: Georgia residents are subject to a tax on their net income. Rates range from one to six percent.
