Growth Management
As a result of exemplary planning and growth management efforts, Columbia County has maintained its traditional character and southern charm in the face of unprecedented population and business growth. Unlike other suburban communities that have faced great surges in population growth over the last 35 years, Columbia County is still able to offer a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing blend of residential, commercial and industrial districts. In 2000, a special committee of local government and private sector citizens completed a comprehensive Growth Management Plan, which outlined key objectives for the future development of Columbia County. By recently completing an extensive update of this plan in 2005, the people of Columbia County have demonstrated their on-going commitment to sustainable, quality growth.
