The Development Authority of Columbia County is the central Economic Development organization for our county. Using a variety of marketing, financial, and strategic planning tools, we recruit quality businesses and help retain & expand existing industry for the good of Columbia County.

A Message from the Chairman
When reflecting on the vibrant economic development of our community, I cannot help but to be reminded of an ancient Chinese proverb:
“If you want 1 year of prosperity, grow grain. If you want 10 years of prosperity, grow trees. If you want 100 years of prosperity, grow people.”
My point? While Columbia County is blessed with tremendous economic assets – including an ideal interstate location, a low cost for doing business, and outstanding infrastructure – it is the extraordinary people of this community that make it a success. Our motivated and well-trained workforce is made up of responsible adults who are dedicated to an ideal of living and working successfully in this community. Since 1970, our population has grown by roughly 500% to over 100,000 people. County crime rates are exceptionally low, and the local marriage, home ownership, voter participation, and high school graduation rates are exceptionally high. While these intangible qualities do not appear on any business earnings report, they have everything to do with productivity and the bottom line.
