COLUMBIA COUNTY, GEORGIA – PART OF THE AUGUSTA MSA
Columbia County is located in eastern Georgia, in a region known as the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA); it is bordered by the Savannah River and Clark's Hill Lake, one of the largest freshwater bodies of water in the southeastern United States. With a population of more than 124,000 (U.S. Census, 2010) – and more than 500,000 in the Augusta (GA) – Aiken (SC) metropolitan statistical area (MSA) – the county's economy is based upon a diverse mix of government, medical, military, professional, and light industrial sectors.
The home to world-class firms such as Quad/Graphics, John Deere, Club Car, and Serta, the county has one of the area's highest standards of living, a fact frequently noted in nationwide surveys by Money magazine and U.S. News and World Report.
A few quick statistics on Columbia County, Georgia:
- 83% of the county's high school seniors graduated in 2010 – one of the highest percentages recorded in the state;
- 87.9% of the county's population are high school graduates (US Census 2000);
- 32% of the county's residents hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher degree (US Census 2000);
- 82.1% of the county's population are homeowners (US Census 2000); and
- A 2006 US Census estimate reported more than 2,100 private non-farm establishments with employees in the county.

The Development Authority of Columbia County
As a public, non-profit economic development agency, the Development Authority of Columbia County (DACC) works to advance commerce throughout the 300-square mile area of Columiba County, Georgia. The DACC works to identify the needs of those businesses seeking to expand or locate in the county.
Once the scope of a business project is fully known, and the needs identified, the DACC seeks to:
- Reduce the cost of project financing through the use of federal, state, and/or local government low-interest loan funds and financing programs;
- Lower the operating costs of a project through the use of workforce training programs and/or tax incentives on qualified projects;
- Identify suitable project building sites or properties; and
- Facilitate the ease of project permitting and implementation.
The DACC draws upon a wide array of available economic development tools and agency relationships to help businesses, including:
- The compilation of demographic material to demonstrate workforce capabilities and market demand;
- The maintenance of a database listing available buildings and sites in the county; and,
- The provision of on-line links to state and local organizations that can provide technical and financial assistance.
